CASE STUDY OF MARETTE FLIES - “Training her Body into thinking It has had Medicine”

In 1983, 11-year-old Marette Flies was diagnosed with LUPUS, a condition in which the immune system destroys the body’s healthy tissues. Despite getting the best treatment for 2 years, there was no improvement in her condition. Her health had degenerated to such extent that the doctors considered giving her a hysterectomy, because they were worried that when her periods started she might bleed to death. She was given heavy dosage of medication which were not successful. Finally, they decided to give her Cytoxan, an extremely toxic drug (at that time its use in humans was experimental).

Marette’s mother came across a scientific paper published by Ader which claimed to have slowed lupus in mice—but with just half the usual dose of Cytoxan.

Karen Olness, a psychologist and pediatrician who was treating Marette contacted Ader and asked:

Would his conditioning work on Marette? Could they train her immune system to respond to a lower drug dose than normal, sparing her from the worst of its toxicity?

Ader agreed to this request and Marette’s treatment was initiated. A unique combination of rose perfume and cod liver oil were selected as stimuli while designing the conditioning regime.

The conditioning procedure took place as follows - Cytoxan was administered intravenously, Marette was asked to sip on cod liver oil while rose perfume was sprayed in the room. This procedure was repeated once a month for the next 3 months.

After 3 months, she was just exposed to the stimuli - cod liver oil and rose perfume, with Cytoxan being administered only every third month. The entire treatment lasted for 15 months which led to Marette’s recovery.

By conditioning her immune system procedurally, it was noted that Marette recovered with just half the suggested dose required for treatment which in turn reduced the harmful impact of Cytoxan.

P.S. – Do not try such conditioning procedures without the aid of an expert. This experiment was conducted by experts under supervision abiding all ethical codes of treatment.
